What the division of the Gaza Strip means Trump is under oath in court today – what that means

Gaza City is surrounded.

According to the Israeli army, the largest city in the enclave is a “hotspot for the terrorist organization Hamas”. Israel suspects that an extensive network of underground fighters is entrenched in civilian infrastructure in Gaza City.

The Israeli military presented proof of this assumption on Sunday. The video shows armed men emerging from a tunnel. The entrance to the tunnel is right next to the Qatar-funded hospital north of Gaza City.

“Hamas is hiding under hospitals to hide its war machine,” said military spokesman Daniel Hagari. The tunnel has now been exposed.

Gaza Strip divided in two

The coastal strip has been divided in two since Sunday. “From today there will be North Gaza and South Gaza,” military spokesman Daniel Hagari announced. Air raids have been extensive in the densely populated coastal strip.

During the ground offensive in the northern Gaza Strip, Israeli soldiers encountered numerous booby traps and mines. “Hamas is preparing well,” said Israeli General Iddo Mizrahi.

Israel knows they are walking into a trap – a trap that Hamas has been preparing for years. That is why Israel is proceeding gradually and not with a large-scale offensive, estimates military expert Vincent Desportes.

The invasion plan calls for the systematic evacuation of Gaza City to eradicate Hamas, writes the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, which is critical of the government. The occupation will last months to a year, Israeli officials fear.

The evacuation is still ongoing

Israel continues to drop leaflets over Gaza calling on civilians to flee to the southern enclave and warning them not to be used as human shields. The Israeli army is still able to escape despite the encirclement.

So other Palestinians headed to the south of the region with wheeled suitcases, pets and wheelchairs. An estimated 800,000 people have left Gaza City after repeated Israeli calls for evacuation.

The independent online newspaper ‘Times of Israel’ writes that some of the refugees have already returned from the south due to a lack of housing.

Further details about the so-called “new phase of the military offensive” are not known. The reason for this is the broken telephone connections. (cst)
