Preparations for the visit of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (45) to Israel are reportedly at an “advanced stage”. The Tel Aviv TV channel Kanal 12 reported this on Friday. Kiev’s wartime President Zelensky will arrive in the warring country of Israel next week.

A visit to Israel by Zelenskiy “would indicate some kind of united front of Israel, Ukraine, Europe and the US against the Russia-Iran axis,” the Hebrew news channel said.

Zelensky is said to allude to the axis of evil that then American President George W. Bush (77) devised in 2002. Bush pointed to terrorist regimes such as North Korea, Iran and Iraq that support terrorists and seek weapons of mass destruction.

A visit would be an “important message”.

Photos of Zelenskiy with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, 74, and President Isaac Herzog, 63, Channel 12 reported, would “convey the message of the enlightened world under attack and standing against the less enlightened world under attack.”

There is also speculation that a visit to Zelenskiy would strengthen Israel’s legitimacy in the war against Hamas. “Such a visit,” which could take place as early as Monday or Tuesday, “would be an important message,” says Israeli Education Minister Yoav Kisch (54).

Three weeks ago, West Jerusalem rejected Zelensky’s request to visit, saying “the time was not right,” as Israeli media reported.

Kiev’s forgotten war

By traveling to Israel, Zelenskiy would not only show solidarity with the hosts. He also wants to put his own war back on the world map. Since the outbreak of the war with Hamas, Kiev has repeatedly suggested that the West is starting to forget the war in Ukraine.

“If international attention somehow turns away from Ukraine, there will be consequences,” Zelensky recently told French broadcaster France 2. “The fate of Ukraine depends on the unity of the rest of the world.”
