“Eight o’clock is just crazy”: influencer bursts into tears after her first day at work

American influencer Brielle does not understand how to function after a long day at work.

Getting up, commuting, working, coming home: what is completely normal for most people is a nightmare for a young American woman: “I have to work a full eight hours and then commute home. “I don’t even have the energy to cook anything,” graduate Brielle complains to the camera.

She only wants to shower, eat and sleep, says the influencer with more than 100,000 followers on Tiktok, who is on the verge of collapse. “I can’t do anything else!” After such a long day, functioning is no longer possible. “What about friendships, dating, sports?” the young woman wonders. “Eight hours in general is just crazy.” What makes it even more difficult for her is that she has to travel about an hour by train to work every day. Her life is just hard. “I get on the train around 7:30 am and don’t get home until around 6:15 pm,” says Brielle. The work and commute just took “f****ng forever.”

Working so long and barely having time for other things in life? It’s not just Americans who suffer from this. The influencer is receiving a lot of support on Tiktok. “It’s so repetitive and depressing. I can feel you girl,” one user commented on the video.

“How am I supposed to find energy?”

Brielle’s video also does not appear to be an isolated case. A video of a young woman looking for a job is currently circulating in Germany. In it she complains that with a full-time job you only have six weeks of vacation per year: “The bad thing is: 30 days is still a lot,” she says. “I don’t know how to survive.”

Working full-time means that you no longer have any free time. And on the weekend you still have to do the housework. There is another vice: “I also have friends who would like to see me again. How am I supposed to find energy?” With a desperate laugh she continues her plea: “There are people who want to give you 36,000 euros gross per year as a full-time employee.” In Germany this would correspond to an average net monthly wage of approximately 2,040 euros.

Her video goes viral. But unlike Brielle in the US, the German clip does not generate supportive commentary, but rather malice. Especially among the older generation. “Welcome to reality” or “Our parents made it too” is what the video says. Someone else writes that she hopes she never finds out that taxes are also being withheld from her salary. But some also agree with the woman. “You can joke about it or you can just see that the lady is basically right. With my current salary I have paid off my student debt for about 50,” someone writes.
