Princess Diana sits alone at the piano, stands alone on a yacht in the south of France, is besieged by paparazzi: The new trailer of the first part of the Netflix hit”The crownis entirely dedicated to the Princess of Wales, just like the four episodes that will reach us on the streaming service on November 16, 2023.
The emotional tension is almost unbearable as we see Diana (Elizabeth Debicki) with her children William (Rufus Kampa) and Harry (Flyn Edwards), while the tabloids read the following article about her private life, in which Queen Elizabeth (Imelda Staunton) wishes her to find peace – and she receives a fateful invitation to Paris.
That’s what the first part of the sixth season of “The Crown” is about
History tells us where these four episodes are going and also indicates the path implied in the trailer is one of certain tragedy. In the first summer after their divorce, Diana and Prince Charles (Dominic West) spend completely different holidays with their two sons. While Charles plans a traditional time with hunting and formalities at Balmoral Castle, Harry and William spend a warm and luxurious time with Diana in the south of France, where the emphasis is on movie nights and video games together. As much as Diana enjoys time with her children, she also suffers from constant criticism from the paparazzi and exploitation in the British tabloids.
When William and Harry are back with their father, Diana’s condition becomes unbearable and she plans a trip to Paris with her new boyfriend Dodi Fayed (Khalid Abdalla) to change her mind. This should determine not only their fate, but also that of the entire royal family, which will henceforth be crushed under the country’s wave of grief.
The second part of the season, with six episodes, will be dedicated to the time after Diana’s death, in which William, Harry and the Queen must deal with their grief and find their way back to their own lives. The series finally ends in 2005 – possibly with the wedding of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles (Olivia Williams). The final six episodes will come to Netflix on December 14.
