The far-right candidate for president of Argentina, Javier Milei, who managed to make it to the second round of the election this Sunday, declared a “historic election” and appealed for the support of the voters of the conservative coalition Together for Change to defeat the official candidate Sergio on November 19. mass.
“The best elections in the history of liberalism in Argentina fill us with pride,” said Milei, who recalled that he was able to assemble his movement in “only two years” and this Sunday achieved a victory that allowed him to obtain 40 deputies and eight senator.
The leader of La Libertad Avanza received 30.08% of the votes and will go to the second round with Massa, current Minister of the Economy and candidate of the Peronist Union for the Homeland Formation, who led in Sunday’s elections with 36.51% of the votes, with 95.84% of the tables counted.
“All of us who want change must work together,” Milei said, reflecting on the November 19 runoff and appealing to voters of the coalition Together for Change (center-right) and its candidate Patricia Bullrich, who fell to third place with 23.85% of the vote.
“During all these months, the campaign has made many of us who want change feel confronted,” Milei said.
“I have come to stop this process of aggression and attack. I am ready to make a clean slate, mix and give again with the aim of ending Kirchnerism,” announced the libertarian candidate, “because beyond our differences,” he said -, What we have to understand is that we have before us a criminal organization.
Milei accused the followers of the vice-president and former president (2007-2015), Cristina Fernández, of defending “populist ideas” and being part of a “government of criminals who want to mortgage” the future “to stay in power” and “deepen the decline (Argentina)”.
“Today we are facing the most important elections in the last hundred years,” Milei said, insisting: “Never in our history has there been a clearer choice.”
Former president Mauricio Macri (2015-2019) flirted with the possibility of supporting the libertarian candidate, despite the fact that he is part of Together for Change. The candidate of this conservative formation, Patricia Bullrich, who slipped to third place this Sunday, did not express explicit support for Milea, but openly refused to congratulate Massa.
Milei took the stage to give his speech surrounded by singing “In November no matter what, we have to win in November!” his companions who sang “Happy Birthday” to him this Sunday as well on his 53rd anniversary.
