A plane left the runway at Leeds Airport on Friday. The reason for this was strong crosswinds and a wet runway. This was confirmed by an airport spokeswoman.
According to rescuers, there were no injuries. However, the passengers had to be evacuated, West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said.
An eyewitness said, according to ’20 Minutes’, that the landing was ‘hard’: ‘The wings went up and down, and the plane somehow landed sideways and then slid into the grass. Immediately there was a terribly loud alarm from the airport, the likes of which I have never heard before – and we are there often.”
A yellow weather warning has been issued for the area as Storm Babet moves through the region. Warnings were issued of heavy rain and flooding. (Mrs)
