Zelensky warns of attacks on electricity suppliers – the nightly update on Ukraine Deadly attack on teachers: France mobilizes 7,000 soldiers

Zelensky: There will be more attacks on energy infrastructure

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has warned of new Russian attacks on his country’s energy infrastructure as winter approaches. As an example, he cited the Russian attacks on the city of Kherson in the south of the country, which temporarily interrupted the supply of electricity and drinking water on Sunday. “We must be aware that there will be more Russian attacks as winter approaches,” he said in his evening video address. “We have to be prepared for that. We have strengthened air defenses as much as possible, as far as this is realistic under the current conditions,” Zelensky added. In addition, Ukrainian leaders discussed with their partners the measures “applied so far.” However, Zelensky did not provide details. He called on local governments, energy suppliers and emergency services to prepare for the expected attacks.

Last winter, the Russian army tried to bring the country to its knees with joint attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. Repeated power outages in various parts of the country had put the population under severe pressure.

Biden: We can and must support Ukraine and Israel

US President Joe Biden assured that America could provide military support to both Ukraine and Israel. “We are the United States of America, for God’s sake, the most powerful nation (…) in the history of the world,” Biden told CBS. The U.S. government could provide both and still maintain capabilities for the overall defense of its own country. ‘We have the opportunity to do that. We have an obligation,” he emphasized. “And if we don’t do it, who will?”

The US has pledged almost $44 billion (about €42 billion) in aid to Ukraine since the start of the war. The White House has already asked Parliament for additional funding for Ukraine. But there is currently a standstill there because the Republicans cannot agree on a chairman for the House of Representatives. Until then, legislative work is at a standstill.

Russian air and artillery attacks on Kherson

The southern Ukrainian city of Kherson was repeatedly attacked by Russian warplanes and artillery on Sunday. The city on the banks of the Dnipro is being rocked by new explosions, the head of the regional military administration, Roman Mrotschko, said. “The enemy fire damaged power lines and destroyed houses,” he wrote on Telegram. The information could not be independently verified.

According to Mrochko, Russian airstrikes had hit infrastructure objects in the morning. As a result, the supply of electricity and water was interrupted until the evening.

This will be important on Monday

This Monday, NATO begins its annual maneuvers to defend the European alliance area with nuclear weapons. Over the next week and a half, approximately 60 aircraft will be involved in the ‘Steadfast Noon’ exercise. Participants are 13 alliance members, including Germany. NATO emphasizes that the exercise is not a response to Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine.
