On Saturday, the terrorist organization Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel from the Gaza Strip. They fired rockets and entered Israeli territory at several points. The Hamas fighters also did not spare the civilian population. There are reports of hostage takings, kidnappings and the shooting of civilians in the streets. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu then declared a state of war.
Federal Councilor Ignazio Cassis will therefore provide information about the current situation at an extraordinary press conference today at 5 p.m.
