The “Sphere at The Venetian Resort” in Las Vegas, Nevada, opened on Friday, September 29, with a visually stunning and loud concert by the band U2. Since then, countless videos and images have flooded social media. See for yourself:
The spherical multi-purpose hall ‘Sphere’, as it is simply called, is not actually located in Las Vegas itself, but in the neighboring city of Paradise. The two places have now actually grown closer.
The “Sphere” contains several records. Since its completion, it has become the largest spherical building in the world, replacing the “Avicii Arena” in the Swedish capital Stockholm. But what makes the “Sphere” truly extraordinary are the 57.6 million LEDs that cover it inside and out. These can be filled with images as desired. Inside the sphere is the world’s first 16K LED display – and extends over 15,000 m².
With construction costs of $2.3 billion, the ‘Sphere’ is the most expensive building in the City of Sin. The construction work lasted four years – including a construction stop during the corona pandemic. The fourth largest crane in the world was brought across the Atlantic Ocean by ship from Belgium to complete construction.
The hall is now complete and has 18,600 seats and 5,000 standing places, spread over 400 rows up to the roof. About 10,000 seats are also equipped with haptic technology, which enables further immersion using 4D functions such as wind or scent. In addition, approximately 164,000 speakers ensure optimal acoustics.
The construction of even more spheres is already planned. One of them will be built in the London district of Stratford in Great Britain. (lso)
