The Australians are having a great time on the cruise.

On June 16, 2022, an Australian couple booked their first cruise. After two years of Corona, they finally wanted to travel again. “Look, whatever happens, just book the cruise,” Marty Ansen told his travel agent. He accepted the risk of a new Corona wave.

Marty and Jess Ansen have now been aboard the cruise ship ‘Coral Princess’, which can accommodate approximately 2,000 passengers, for more than 450 days. In a video from ‘A Current Affair’, the couple says that they have already booked 51 trips – and would like to stay on board for a total of two years.

Australians say the cruises are cheaper than living in a retirement home. The lifestyle on the ship is also much better: “Where else can you go out for dinner, see a show and dance,” says Jess. “You have all these activities at your disposal all day long.”

“Now we don’t have to do the dishes or make the bed anymore.”Marty Ansen, Australian great-grandfather

Another benefit is all the work that is eliminated on the cruise ship. “Now we don’t have to do the dishes or make the bed,” says Marty, who is a great-grandfather. “We don’t even know how to make the bed anymore because we haven’t done it in so long. “So we have to stay on board,” the pensioner jokes.

The Australian couple starts every day with a game of ping-pong and then often sits on the balcony of their room, where they enjoy the view with a beer. In the evenings Jess dances, while Marty likes to talk to strangers.

The couple is famous on board

According to Ren van Rooyen, hotel manager of the ship, the great-grandparents are stars on the ‘Coral Princess’: “Everyone knows them on the ship, they are actually celebrities on board.” Even those who come aboard for just a single cruise would have heard of the couple.

Jess and Marty plan to stay on the cruise ship for another eight months. Then the two move. But not to a retirement home, but to the next ship: the ‘Crown Princess’. They always meet their family when they dock at a nearby port. “It’s a great life,” Marty says. (obf)
