The Eastern Swiss remain without a win in their fifth game away from home. Yverdon, on the other hand, also wins the second home match in the renovated Stade Municipal and overtakes St. Gallen in the rankings thanks to the 1-0 win.

The guests’ anger at the defeat became clear after the final whistle when goalkeeper Zigi expressed his displeasure in the catacombs. The Ghanaian shouts in English and violently tells a teammate to shut up. It cannot be determined who Zigi’s anger is directed at. One thing is clear: the nerves are clearly on edge in St. Gallen.

Zeidler pays respect to the opponent

Coach Peter Zeidler is much calmer when he appears before the media: “Everyone in the Super League now knows that Yverdon has built a very good team. You have worked intelligently.”

The German is particularly critical of his team’s performance in the first half. “The gaps were way too big, they had too many attacking options, too many counter-attacks. The goal was the logical consequence.”

St. Gallen becomes stronger after the break. The fact that the guests can hope for a point until the end also has to do with the fact that Yverdon failed to close the bag. “Overall, we didn’t play at our level today. We can and must do better,” Zeidler said.

Home top – flop away

St. Gallen has an astonishing record after nine rounds: all four home games were won with the same result (2:1). Outside the cantonal border, the team from St. Gallen is still without a victory. The only trio abroad is the one in the cup in Widnau (with a lot of effort and hardship). Furthermore, there was the cup defeat in Delsberg, as well as three draws and two defeats in the league.

“There are two explanations for this phenomenon,” says Zeidler. «The first is that at home we benefit from the presence of our twelfth man, our great audience. The second is that we cannot leave home for various reasons. That is understandable? A little bit, but not completely…’ Zeidler says with a pained smile. “I don’t see any objective reason why we couldn’t win when we play against eleven at home and away. The difference is too big, it doesn’t fit.”
