German climate activists of the ‘Last Generation’ took part in a demonstration in The Hague.

Police in The Hague used water cannons to break the blockade of a highway by hundreds of climate activists. According to police, 600 protesters were arrested on Saturday and taken by bus to the city’s football stadium.

About 100 members of the German group ‘Last Generation’ also took part in the action on Autobahn 12, reports ANP news agency. The Germans therefore tried to stick to the asphalt with their hands. Police officers used solvents to free the demonstrators. The police confiscated the glue and used scrapers and solvent to remove the remaining glue from the road.

Extinction Rebellion announces daily blockades

After their arrest, the German activists were searched and their bags were checked. The group Extinction Rebellion (XR) in the Netherlands organized the blockade of the A12 near the Dutch parliament and government district for the 22nd time. The police use water cannons to clear the lanes, but have now reduced the number of officers deployed.

Extinction Rebellion says it wants to block the A12 every day until all government subsidies for fossil fuels such as coal, oil and gas in the Netherlands are abolished. The group accuses the government of reneging on its promise to eliminate tax breaks and other forms of subsidies for aviation, shipping, fossil fuel generation and oil production. (SDA)
