An exciting Ticino derby ended with a victory for the home team: Lugano won against Ambri (4:3 nP) after an early 0-2 deficit. But then there are also ugly scenes in the Cornèr Arena.
Some fans from both sides clashed in the stands after the match. A junior goal is used as a throwing object. According to eyewitnesses, the riots were caused by an Ambri fan who stormed onto the ice.
In addition, a video circulating on social media shows that Ambri supporters have destroyed a toilet.
“A group of 15 to 20 people somewhat destroyed an ice hockey festival and a super match with a lot of emotions,” says Lugano CEO Marco Werder (50). “We are glad that no one was seriously injured and that nothing serious happened.”
Violators who can be identified will be banned from playing at the stadium. «We are now evaluating the videos. Where possible, we will punish the guilty severely. This has to stop,” says Werder.
It is not yet possible to estimate the extent of the material damage at HC Lugano.
There was also material damage during the Zurich derby between the ZSC Lions and EHC Kloten (5:1) on Friday evening. “Several dozen EHC Kloten fans traveled by public transport via the Altstetten train station,” the city police wrote.
Due to a construction site, private motorized traffic was guided slowly in one lane along the fan march. “This resulted in at least three cars being damaged by people from the fan march.” After the match, a clash between rival fans was prevented using rubber bullets.
