Peter M., a Swiss citizen abroad, is said to have been guilty of child abuse and child prostitution.

These are scandalous accusations: Swiss expat Peter M.* (57), living in the Cambodian capital Phnom Penh, was arrested last Tuesday for child abuse and child prostitution, according to the “Khmer Times”. The man is suspected of, among other things, having filmed and distributed child pornography.

According to the deputy head of the city’s Child Protection and Anti-Trafficking Bureau, Lt. Col. Keo Kimheng, the man was arrested at his home.

Paid $150 for sex with guys

Shortly afterwards, M. confessed that he had taken children to Phnom Penh several times and then let them spend the night at his home.

Moreover, according to Lt. Col. Kimheng, the 57-year-old allegedly paid a poor Cambodian mother $150 for sex with her three sons last June. He is said to have sexually abused the boy several times.

According to Kimheng, the suspect allegedly took the children to a rented room three to four times a month. He then allegedly gave the boys each a small amount of money and food.

Shortly before the arrest on Tuesday, M. met the children again. He was caught red-handed by the police. The officials were informed about the Swiss due to a complaint received against him.

M. risks seven to fifteen years in prison

The police then investigated M. further and discovered his gruesome actions. He now faces serious consequences. He is accused of child prostitution and sexual exploitation. If convicted, he could spend seven to 15 years behind bars.

The Child Protection Unit CPU said on social media that the arrest came after a two-month investigation into child sexual abuse in Phnom Penh. This is said to be one of the largest investigations of the CPU since it began operations a decade ago.

Swiss authorities are participating in investigations

Between September 26 and 28, investigators from the FOXTROT23 task force executed multiple search warrants and discovered a significant amount of evidence at multiple locations, including cell phones, cameras, laptops, industrial film lights, lubricants and performance-enhancing drugs.

The exact extent of the crimes is still being investigated. The Swiss authorities have also joined the task force and are supporting the investigation. (ced)
