An explosion claimed the life of a woman in Sweden.

Three people have been killed in less than 24 hours in Sweden in suspected clashes between rival criminal gangs. Police said two shooting incidents took place in two Stockholm suburbs on Wednesday and an explosion in a suburb of the university city of Uppsala on Thursday evening. Sweden has recently been hit by a wave of violence due to the turf war for control of the drug trade.

Shortly after 7pm on Wednesday evening, a young man was shot dead in an affluent suburb of Stockholm near a sports facility where a training session with children was taking place.

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (59) reacted shocked. “Innocent people who had no connection with organized crime, including several children who had come for training, had to witness another brutal gun battle in which a man was shot,” he told TV4.

Eleven people died in September alone

The head of government mentioned “crying children in football shirts and very concerned parents” and expressed his condolences to them. Kristersson added: “These unscrupulous killers will not stop shooting at each other and others until we stop them.”

A few hours later, another incident was reported in another suburb. According to police, two people were injured, one of whom later died. Three suspects were arrested. On Thursday evening, a 25-year-old woman was killed in an explosion in a suburb of Uppsala. The explosion damaged five homes, police said.

According to a tally of gang violence by Swedish public television channel SVT, 11 people have already been killed in September – the highest monthly death toll in four years.
