Major concerns about ‘Chief Mouser’ Larry in Britain – Downing Street provides clarity about hundreds injured in explosion at fuel depot in Nagorno-Karabakh – background unclear

At 16, Larry the Cat is no longer a youngster. The ‘Chief Mouser to the Cabinet Office’, the pet cat of the prime minister in question, is said to have become weak over the years. The fear therefore increases that Larry will die soon. Rumors have circulated in recent days that the English population will soon have to prepare for his death.

At 84 years old – in human terms – the ‘Chief Mouser’ is clearly no longer the youngest. The cat served during the terms of office of a total of five (!) Prime Ministers. In 2011 he moved into No. 10 Downing Street and was brought in as a pet for David Cameron’s children, according to the Daily Mirror.

If Larry dies soon, there will likely be many mourners in the kingdom – unusual for a cat. Not only is he a popular photo opportunity for waiting media outside the Prime Minister’s residence, he also has many fans. Larry has over 800,000 followers No one wants to think about the worst, but unfortunately we have to prepare for it.”

Larry was adopted from a cat and dog shelter in Battersea, a district of London. Such is its popularity, the Daily Mirror reports, that up to 15 per cent more cats have been adopted in Battersea as a result.

Larry’s official duties include keeping the building free of rodents, greeting guests and “inspecting antique furniture for sleep quality.” An official job description on Downing Street’s website states: “His daily duties also include considering a solution to the mouse infestation in the home.”

And now this will all soon be a thing of the past. Or not? According to a report from British broadcaster ITV, the British government on Monday evening denied rumors about Larry the cat’s alleged ill health. The ‘Chief Mouser’ is ‘happy and healthy’, a spokesperson said when asked.

Larry the Cat (or at least his account manager) then confirmed, not without a swipe at the Tory government, and via

Larry will remain with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and the entire English people for a while yet. Yet at some point the British will also have to say goodbye. Until then, Downing Street will hopefully remain mouse-free. (lacquer)
