Zelenskyj: Keep working on military aid – the nightly update without photos Zelenskyj visit to Canada: Tribute to SS veteran causes outrage

After receiving the first American Abrams tanks, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj expressed confidence in further military assistance. Meanwhile, the US has reached an agreement on a billion-dollar loan for the modernization of the army in EU country Poland, which borders Ukraine. There were further explosions in Sevastopol in Russia-annexed Crimea, and Moscow reported further Ukrainian drone strikes in the Kursk region near the border.

The overview of what happened that night:

Zelensky: We need more weapons systems than we currently have

“We are also working to obtain all other military capabilities we need,” Zelensky said in his evening video address on Monday. These include F-16 fighter jets, anti-aircraft systems and long-range weapons, he added. “To cover our entire national territory, we need more systems than we currently have.” Ukraine hopes, among other things, for Taurus cruise missiles from Germany. However, so far there has been no commitment from Berlin.

Earlier in the day, the head of state announced that the first Abrams tanks had arrived in Ukraine. In total, the United States has announced the transfer of 31 battle tanks to the country attacked by Russia.

The US agrees to a billion dollar loan for Poland’s military modernization

Meanwhile, the US reached an agreement on a billion-dollar loan to modernize the Polish army. The US State Department announced that Poland would receive a direct loan of two billion dollars (1.89 billion euros). “Poland is a loyal ally of the United States, and its security is critical to the collective defense of NATO’s eastern flank,” the report said. In view of the war in neighboring Ukraine and the threat from Russia, Poland is working to arm its own army.

Moscow: New drone attacks in the Kursk border area

According to official information, Russian air defenses repelled a total of four Ukrainian drone attacks over the Kursk region near the Ukrainian border late Monday evening. Two drones were destroyed around 10:30 PM local time (9:30 PM CEST), followed by two more about half an hour later, the Russian Defense Ministry in Moscow announced via Telegram on Tuesday evening. The ministry spoke of foiled terrorist attacks. The information could not be independently verified.

The regional capital Kursk was already attacked with drones on Sunday. One reportedly hit the building of Russia’s domestic secret service FSB, and a second hit an oil refinery, media in Kiev reported, citing Ukrainian military intelligence. The Kursk region officially announced that a drone caused minor damage to the roof of an administrative building.

Moscow has repeatedly reported Ukrainian drone attacks in recent weeks. However, these are out of proportion to Russia’s massive attacks in its war of aggression against its neighbor.

Explosions in Sevastopol – reportedly “controlled demolition”

After the Ukrainian attack on the headquarters of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, explosions again occurred in the Black Sea peninsula of Crimea, which was annexed by Moscow. According to the Russian occupation chief of the area, Mikhail Razvoshayev, there was a “controlled demolition” of the badly damaged building in the city of Sevastopol. This could not be independently verified. Later that evening, Razvoshayev reported that air defenses had intercepted a Ukrainian missile.

What will be important on Tuesday

The Ukrainian army continues its counter-offensive to liberate the occupied territories. Most recently, it has been particularly successful with attacks on military facilities on the Russian-annexed Crimean Peninsula. (sda/dpa)
