Two hunters were initially reported missing in the Lower Engadine on Thursday evening. A short time later they were found dead. What exactly happened remains unclear. One thing is certain: the fact that both accidents took place on the same evening was “pure coincidence,” said a spokeswoman for the Graubünden cantonal police when asked by Blick. “Both men were traveling alone and went missing independently of each other.”
In collaboration with the Public Prosecution Service, the cantonal police are now trying to determine the circumstances of the deaths. The spokeswoman explains: “We check in all directions. We’re trying to figure out if it was a fall or if the weather had an influence. We also check whether a natural death or the consequences of violence are possible. Police also confirmed that both deceased had external injuries.
One of the dead was a 74-year-old hunter who did not return after the hunt. When his relatives could not reach him, they raised the alarm and started looking for him. At around 10 p.m., the man was finally found dead by his son in Val Sampuoir in Ardez GR.
Another 58-year-old hunter was reported missing the same evening by his hunting companions in Sent. The Graubünden cantonal police then launched a large-scale search operation. Three mountain rescue teams from the Swiss Alpine Club SAC and two search dogs in the area searched for the missing person in the Val d’Uina and on the other side of the Rojental. On Friday morning, the man was found dead in the La Stüra area at an altitude of about 2,600 meters above sea level. M found. (Mrs)
