The number of confirmed deaths in the earthquake zone in Morocco rose slightly to 2,946. The Ministry of the Interior of the North African country announced this on Wednesday evening. Almost all victims have already been buried. Authorities recently spoke of 2,901 deaths. The number of injured was now officially determined at 5,674. The number of victims is still expected to continue to rise. The hope of finding survivors after the natural disaster is now very low. Aid workers have not yet reached all affected villages in the Atlas Mountains.
The earthquake occurred last Friday and was the worst in Morocco in decades. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), more than 300,000 people in Marrakech and surrounding areas have been affected by the accident. (sda/dpa)
