Switzerland must track down assets: FDP leader calls on Switzerland to join oligarchic money task force

class=”sc-29f61514-0 icZBHN”>

FDP leader Thierry Burkart takes a position on the oligarchic money issue. Here in conversation with Federal President Alain Berset.

FDP leader Thierry Burkart is in favor of Switzerland joining the international task force to track down the money of Russian oligarchs. He made this clear after the head of the banking association, Roman Studer, had already made such a statement to the ‘NZZ’ on Wednesday.

He saw no reason why Switzerland should not join, Burkart said on Wednesday evening in the “Tagesschau” on German-language Swiss television. “On the contrary: we would have the opportunity there to put forward our position and show that we are already very active on this issue,” the FDP leader emphasized.

This means that the liberals are now on the same page as the SP, Center, Greens and GLP. Their presidents have already called on Switzerland to join the task force of the G-7 states: Germany, France, Britain, Italy, Japan, Canada and the US.

Contrary to American criticism

The head of the Swiss Bankers’ Association, Roman Studer, refuted criticism from the US about hidden oligarch money. Switzerland must clearly position itself as a small, export-oriented country despite the pressure, he said in an interview with the “Neue Zürcher Zeitung” (NZZ).

Studer made the bankers’ association’s position clear: “We pursue a zero-tolerance strategy towards black money.” Combating money laundering and terrorist financing is at the top of the priority list. In Switzerland, a relatively large number of assets are blocked in relation to the size of the financial center, according to Studer.

From the association’s perspective, he sees few reasons why Switzerland should not join the oligarchic task force of the G7 states. The Federal Council gave the most important industrialized countries a basket in April. He refused to participate in the international task force to track down Russian oligarch funds. (SDA)
