At a memorial service in New York, family members read out the names of the approximately 3,000 people killed in the attacks.

US Vice President Kamala Harris and New York Mayor Eric Adams also attended the event. US President Joe Biden wanted to give a short commemorative speech in the US state of Alaska later in the day (scheduled from 2245 CEST) on the return journey from the G20 summit in India.

On September 11, 2001, approximately 3,000 people were killed in the worst attack in the history of terrorism. Islamist terrorists sent three hijacked planes into the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon in Washington. A fourth plane crashed in Pennsylvania.
