Lotus will launch Emeya, a true super electric car, in 2024. With this, the British want to oppose rival models from Audi, BMW, Porsche, Aston Martin and Co. under the Chinese flag. The little brother of the electric SUV Eletre is expected to wage war on powerful luxury electric vehicles with much more horsepower than the Porsche Taycan.

Of course, Lotus could introduce its new electric sports car at the IAA, which has just concluded in Munich (D). But a colorless auto show was probably a little too flashy for Chinese auto giant Geely for its new exhibition (also interesting: China’s electric cars are overtaking Europe).

It dazzles the future

Due to its high position in the Lotus product range, the elegant four-door car will have its world premiere in a multi-day event in a parking lot in midtown Manhattan, USA. The introduction of Emeya is intended to attract significant attention, particularly to compensate for Lotus’ lack of expertise in high-performance gran turismo vehicles.

Visitors can also take a journey through the turbulent history of the once British carmaker across four floors. “By combining our traditional company history with intelligent performance and cutting-edge technology, we are setting new standards for what a luxury electric car should feel and look like,” explains Lotus Group CEO Feng Qingfeng (50).

The magic word is aerodynamics

The new Emeya is visually modeled after its older brother, Eletre. Flatter and slightly less angular, the Emeya also relies entirely on active aerodynamics. In addition to electric motors on the front and rear axles and the adaptive air suspension, the active radiator grille, which increases air resistance when closed and cools the battery and braking system when open, provides special driving characteristics. A special rear diffuser and spoiler are also part of the active aerodynamics.

The two electric motors are designed to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 2.78 seconds and reach a top speed of 256 km/h. The drive’s performance data largely matches that of the Eletre R: the top model Emeya R is said to have 675 kW (905 hp) and 985 Nm. For comparison: the top model Porsche Taycan Turbo S can reach a top speed of 260 km/h with up to 761 hp in overboost and reach 0 to 100 in 2.8 seconds.

Advert

There is no information yet on the range of the Lotus Emeya, but like the Eletre, the Lotus is assumed to be around 600 kilometers. Maximum charging power is 350 kW, which means the super electric vehicle can charge its 102 kWh battery pack to 80 percent in less than 20 minutes. No competitor on the market can do this this fast.

Pure luxury inside and out

The interior features newly developed luxury threads made of recycled fibres, as well as aluminium, Alcantara and elegant Nappa leather. Its technical highlight is the 55-inch head-up display, which projects all important information into the pilot’s field of view. «Emeya is a lotus flower that the world has never seen before. “We built on everything Lotus has ever achieved to create a luxury performance vehicle,” says Ben Payne, Vice President of Lotus Group Design.

Lotus Eletre and Emeya, which will be available from mid-2024, are not enough. Lotus wants to add more luxury models with electric drives in the next few years. Everything was made possible by fresh money from China because in 2017, Geely Group acquired 51 percent of Lotus Group. Lotus does not compromise on price as well as detailed technical data and performance. For guidance: its SUV sibling, the Eletre, costs 116,090 francs.
