Hurricane Lee has moved to Category 2 and is moving toward the Lesser Antilles

He hurricane lee gained intensity again this Thursday by going to category 2with maximum sustained winds of 165 kilometers per hour, as it approaches the Lesser Antilles, as Tropical Depression 14 forms today in Cape Verde Archipelagoin front West African coasts.

Lee formed as a storm in the central Atlantic on Tuesday, became a Category 1 hurricane on Wednesday and was upgraded to a Category 2 hurricane on Wednesday as it moved north towards the Lesser Antilles, National Hurricane Center (NHC) in its newsletter today at 11:00 local time (15:00 GMT).

The center of Lee, located 1,405 kilometers east of the northern Lesser Antilles, is rapidly intensifying and is forecast to become a major hurricane, or three or more on the Saffir-Simpson intensity scale of maximum five, in the next few hours.

NHC meteorologists warned that Lee “a major hurricane will remain over the weekend” as it moves to the west-northwest and that it will generate “big waves” on its way that will reach the Lesser Antilles, the British and Virgin Islands of the United States of America and also Puerto Rico during the weekend.

Based on the probable track pattern, the eye of Lee will move north of the northern Lesser Antilles in the coming days.

Hurricane winds extend up to 35 kilometers from the center.

There are currently no coastal watches or warnings, but the Lesser Antilles must monitor the progress of the system.

On the other hand, tropical depression number 14 was created today in the eastern Atlantic and is located 260 kilometers west of the Cape Verde archipelago, along the coast of West Africa.

The depression has maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour, is moving west-northwest at a translational speed of 28 kilometers, and forecasters predict it will become a storm this afternoon or night.

There are currently no coast guards or alerts.

Lee’s formation in the current season hurricanes in the Atlanticwhich will end on November 1, comes after powerful Hurricane Idalia made landfall in northwest Florida on Wednesday of last week and continued over the southeastern United States.

In an update published on August 10, The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has predicted an “above normal” Atlantic hurricane season.with the formation of between 14 and 21 tropical storms, of which between 6 and 11 would be hurricanes.
