“Thanksgiving”: In the trailer for the horror slasher, a killer throws a bloody harvest feast

First “Machete”, then “Hobo With A Shotgun” and now “Thanksgiving”: already three of the five mock trailers of the retro horror project “Grindhouse” (consisting of “Death Proof” and “Planet Terror”) by Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez have since been filmed.

While “Machete” (2010) and its sequel “Machete Kills” (2013) starring cult star Danny Trejo and “Hobo With A Shotgun” (2011) were realized relatively close to the 2007 theatrical release of “Grindhouse”, it took ‘Thanksgiving’ no less than 16 years – because the slasher will now be seen in German cinemas on November 16, 2023. Here’s the German trailer:

This is Thanksgiving

The plot of “Thanksgiving” is apparently based on Christmas slashers like “Halloween” or “Black Christmas”, only with a Thanksgiving theme. Here, for example, the mysterious killer dons a pilgrim hat and costume as he hunts his victims.

“Thanksgiving” is set in the town of Plymouth, Massachusetts, believed to be the birthplace of the current Thanksgiving holiday. A year later, after a tragic accident on Black Friday (the Friday after Thanksgiving), Plymouth is haunted by a masked killer. As the town sheriff tries to catch the killer, he takes on one victim after another…

The sheriff is played by “Grey’s Anatomy” star Patrick Dempsey, the female lead is played by influencer and actress Addison Rae (“One Like No One”). Other roles include Milo Manheim from Disney’s Zombie series and ’90s star Gina Gershon (“Showgirls”, “Face/Off”). Directed – as with the original fake trailer – “Hostel” director Eli Roth.

These are the grindhouse trailers

If you are interested in the other trailers of the “Grindhouse” project: on YouTube you can find numerous videos where the various fake trailers are edited together. These were shown before and between Tarantino’s car action film Death Proof and Rodriguez’s zombie splatter Planet Terror, which were released together as Grindhouse in North America, but screened separately in Europe.

Rob Zombie’s Nazi trash festival “Werewolf Women Of The SS” (starring Udo Kier and Nicolas Cage, among others) and Edgar Wright’s creepy house horror “Don’t” (starring many of his Cornetto trilogy) not yet released and filmed. By the way, the comparison between the real ‘Thanksgiving’ trailer and the original fake trailer, which you can also find on YouTube, is also very interesting.
