In early July, a 13-year-old girl was waiting at a bus stop in San Antonio, Texas, when a car pulled up next to her. The driver pointed a gun at the girl and ordered her to get in.
The man drove more than 2200 kilometers with the 13-year-old, the “Spiegel” writes. According to the girl, he stopped several times along the way and abused her. Finally, three days later, the kidnapper pulled up in a parking lot in Long Beach, a Southern California town.
Once there, the girl scribbled the words “Help me!” on a piece of paper. (In German: help me). When passers-by passed the car, she didn’t hesitate for a second and pressed the crumpled note against the window. Passersby in the parking lot didn’t hesitate for a second and called 911, the emergency number in the US.
A short time later, a patrol car from the local police showed up in the parking lot. The officers got out and found a man in front of the said car. Further into the car, the police saw the little girl utter the word “Help.”
The police immediately arrested the man and released the little girl. As it turned out, the kidnapper was already wanted for burglary and armed robbery. (obf)
