“Watters is a reliable pro-Trump voice from the conservatives.” This is what the ‘New York Times’ writes about the successor to Tucker Carlson who was fired in April at the right-wing American news channel Fox News. So Jesse Watters takes Carlson’s place.
Watters is known for getting noticed. With populist statements, with racially motivated questions, with its anti-corona measures. In 2021, Watters ranted against immunologist Anthony Fauci, explaining to his conservative viewers at a conference how to ambush him using investigative techniques.
Jesse Watters made his debut on Tuesday evening, following in Carlson’s footsteps for the first time and hosting his first primetime show on Fox News. In which he was promptly reprimanded. And by none other than his mother.
“We have a very special guest on the phone. A Democrat – my mother. Hello mom,’ Watters greets his guest on the phone. He asks her how she’s liked the show so far, and she responds positively. “I want to congratulate you baby – we are so proud of you and your achievements. And you worked so hard. Now let’s make sure you keep your job,” she says.
Watters laughs – apparently because he doesn’t know what to expect next.
Because so that her son can keep his job, Watter’s mother has brought a few suggestions. Quite a list, she admits. “Don’t get involved in conspiracy theories,” she says tough. The moderator laughs again. Interestingly, Anne Watters, Jesse’s mother, is a staunch Democratwho was written about in 2018 as disliking then-President Donald Trump.
Anne Watters continues: “We don’t want to lose you and we don’t want to be sued.” Then she really gets to work.
«In line with the Hippocratic oath: do no harm. We want you to be kind and respectful. You said yourself that humility is a strength. Use your voice responsibly to foster conversation that has a common thread.» Here the moderator begins to massage his forehead somewhat nervously.
But Anne Watters goes even further: “There has really been enough Biden bashing (…). For example, maybe you could suggest that your people be less interested in and talk about other people’s bodies.”
Jesse Watters’ mom (who is a Democrat) calls to weigh in on his first night on his 8 p.m. show:

Here, however, Watters intervenes. Because apparently his mom is talking about a post that ran on the show earlier. A post that pursues the agenda of far-right Republicans and incites against the LGBTQIA+ community.
“Wait a minute,” says the moderator, cutting off his mother’s words. “We’re trying to keep other people’s interest away from children’s bodies — that was the point of this post.”
Apparently it gets too colorful for him, he tries to silence his mother. But she won’t let it go that easily. “Wait, wait, wait,” she says. “I want you to look for solutions instead of fanning the flames.”
If you’re like me and eager to see how this clip ends, there’s more!

Jesse Watters simply says, “I knew it was a bad idea.”
Of course, it’s safe to assume that this was all a brazen PR stunt by Watters and his producers. But whether the strategy really turned out as hoped is at least doubtful.
