About nine months after the massive explosion at the Kerch bridge between Russia and the Ukrainian Black Sea peninsula of Crimea occupied by Moscow, another attack has occurred there. After an explosion on Monday morning, Russia officially speaks of an “act of terrorism” and blames Ukrainian secret services.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov: “We know the reasons and those behind the terrorist attack.” That’s all the work of the Kiev regime. In the evening, President Vladimir Putin will chair a special session and be briefed by Deputy Prime Minister Marat Chusnullin on the duration of renovation work on the 19-kilometer-long building.

Russia’s anti-terrorism committee said the bridge was attacked by surface drones early in the morning. From Kiev there is still no official confirmation of involvement in the incident. An anonymous source from the Ukrainian secret service SBU confirmed to the BBC that Ukraine attacked the Crimean bridge. The Navy and Secret Service were involved.

Train services resumed

Russian authorities first reported an “emergency” on the 19-kilometer bridge. Two people died in their car and a teenager was injured. Photos and videos on social networks show clear destruction on the road. Traffic was stopped. Train traffic has now resumed.

The Ukrainian secret service has not yet confirmed its own involvement, saying only in an initial response: “Again the bridge ‘sleep’ is gone.” Kiev later claimed responsibility for the attack on the bridge last fall. The roadway was also heavily damaged at the time, but was later repaired.

Many tourists despite the tense security situation

Ukraine, which has been defending itself against a Russian offensive war for nearly 17 months, has announced that it will liberate all occupied parts of the country as part of a counter-offensive.
