The purges in the framework of the Russian army apparently continue. After the resignation of Major General Ivan Popov (48) this week caused unrest among the troops, apparently another head is already rolling. As the Russian Telegram channel Rybar reported, among others, Major General Vladimir Seliverstov has now also been fired.

Seliverstov has been relieved of his position as commander of the 106th Air Force Division. The Major General took part in the invasion of Ukraine from the very first day and was awarded the highest award “Hero of Russia”. Seliverstow probably stumbled over his unyielding nature. And he’s not used to being “silent when it comes to his employees,” they say.

Ukrainians could benefit from the general’s resignation

Seliverstov’s resignation will not be without consequences for the war in Ukraine. The major general has been responsible for the area in and around Bachmut since January. It is possible that the dismissal now has a negative impact on the effectiveness of his troops. Fierce fighting rages in Bakhmut. For the Telegram channel Rybar it is clear: “The Ukrainian army will benefit from the dismissal of General Zelivestrov around Bakhmut.”

“Criticism from subordinates is becoming more and more of a problem”

Like Major General Popov, Seliverstov may have been fired for expressing his displeasure with the top military leadership.

According to British intelligence, many officers in the Russian army are dissatisfied with the leadership. “Direct criticism from subordinates is likely to become an increasing problem for Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu (68) and Chief of Staff Valery Gerasimov (67),” the defense ministry said in London on Saturday.
