At least seven dead after storm in South Korea Deaths in nuclear accident in Russia – no radioactivity leaked

At least seven people have been killed in South Korea after heavy rains and flooding. As South Korean media reported on Saturday, three other people were also missing. Authorities say the number of casualties could rise.

The torrential downpour caused 10 landslides and temporary power outages in 13 parts of the country on Saturday night. In the central district of Goesan alone, more than 6,000 residents had to be evacuated after a local dam overflowed. According to media reports, seven people were also injured.

The situation remained tense. The weather bureau announced continued, heavy rainfall for large parts of the country. South Korea is currently in the summer rainy season, during which there are regular floods. (saw/sda/dpa)
