An eight-year-old French boy was rescued by firefighters this Friday after falling into a volcanic crater in Galapagos Islands (Ecuador) about 100 meters deep, according to a press release from the Galapagos National Park.
The event took place in one of the two craters that make up the Los Gemelos complex, one of the tourist attractions on Santa Cruz Island, the most populated in the Ecuadorian archipelago, located in the center of the island area. Firefighters, police officers, National Park guards, employees of the Ministry of Public Health and other volunteers participated in the rescue operation. This is the second unusual emergency to arise in the Galapagos this week, after a Mexican tourist with US citizenship was bitten by a shark while snorkeling around Mosquero Islet on Tuesday.
