Sentenced to 90 life sentences for the massacre in El Paso

Patrick Crusiusrecognized author of the book Supermarket massacre in El Paso, Texas, USA in 2019 what caused it 23 deadhe was sentenced to 90 consecutive life sentences for that racist attack directed against Hispanics and immigrants.

Last February, Crusius pleaded guilty to 90 federal counts of murder and hate crimes for the shooting at a Walmart store with a majority Latino clientele, in exchange for which the US government did not seek the death penalty.

However, Texas prosecutors plan to retry him for the same shooting in a state trial in which he will seek the death penalty.

After turning himself in to police that day and identifying himself as the perpetrator, Crusius told investigators yes he chose a Walmart store for his attack because it is close to the Mexican border and because it is frequented by Hispanic clients, according to trial documents.

He first visited the store without a weapon, and returned equipped protection against sound in the ears, plastic glasses i.a semi-automatic rifle with which he shot indiscriminately.

He also admitted that a few minutes before the massacre, he published a manifesto on the Internet in which he complained about “cultural and ethnic substitution” and The “Hispanic Invasion” of the United States.

“We’re still going to prosecute the Walmart killer. We will continue to seek the death penalty,” he said El Paso County District Attorney Bill Hickswho nevertheless admitted that the fate of the prisoner would be decided by a jury.

Hicks said he did not know when the state trial would begin, but said it would be sometime later 2024 or 2025.

“The mass murder of twenty people just because they looked like me or my family members by a white nationalist It will always be one of the darkest days in my town“, said Mario Carrillo, campaign manager for the pro-immigrant organization America’s Voice, who grew up in El Paso.

He emphasized that his anger is not limited to the perpetrator, i singled out Texas Governor Greg Abbott and US Senator Ted Cruz“among many other Republicans”, for spreading “conspiracies and lies of hatred”.

“Despite the demonstrated dangers, have escalated their use of ‘invasion’ and ‘replacement’ (white population) conspiracies over the last four yearsapparently not caring that this rhetoric is accompanied by deaths,” he said.
