According to his own statements, the operator of the crashed submarine “Titan” is suspending his trips. “Oceangate has ceased all scientific and commercial activities,” a banner on the company’s website read on Thursday.
Shortly thereafter, the website was no longer available. Oceangate initially gave no further details. Various American media had previously reported on it.
The submarine “Titan” went missing on June 18 after exploring the wreckage of the “Titanic”. A few days after the disappearance, a submarine had discovered debris, which the US Coast Guard matched with the submarine on June 22.
The deaths of five occupants on board were considered certain. Among them was one of the two founders and the acting head of the company. (sda/dpa)
