Western intelligence services already announced in February that Russia had lost half of its tanks. British Admiral Sir Tony Radakin, head of the British armed forces, believes that Putin’s army has lost only half of its fighting power in the meantime.

According to the Financial Times, Radakin says: “Last year Russia fired 10 million artillery shells, but at best it can produce 1 million shells a year. It has lost 2,500 tanks and can only produce 200 tanks a year at most.”

«Maximum destruction of personnel»

Some pundits and politicians have criticized Ukraine’s slow counter-offensive. The main attack of the Kiev counter-offensive is yet to come, Radakin said. Ukraine’s strategy is “starve, expand, strike”. As a result, the Russian defense lines are gradually collapsing.

The Ukrainian leadership explained the slow progress of the counter-offensive with the new goal of a war of attrition. “Task number one is the maximum destruction of personnel, equipment, fuel depots, military vehicles, command posts, artillery and anti-aircraft troops of the Russian army,” Secretary of the National Security Council Oleksiy Danilov wrote on Twitter. The more effectively the enemy was destroyed, the more miles would be liberated later.

Density of minefields higher than expected

“The past few days have been particularly fruitful,” added Danilov. The spokesman for the Tauria front in southern Ukraine, Valeriy Sherschen, had previously spoken without details of an advance of more than two kilometers.

Admiral Radakin told a parliamentary hearing that the density of Russian minefields was greater than expected. Added to this is the lack of Ukrainian air support. In addition, the Ukrainian armed forces still lack weapons systems. Radakin: “Russia is so weak that it does not have the strength for a counter-offensive.” (new)
