Satellite images from Friday show that a camp is being built on a former military base in Belarus. It may have been intended as a home for Wagner-Sölder.

On June 24, the troops of Wagner boss Yevgeny Prigozhin (62) moved towards Moscow. The whole world wondered if a civil war would break out. But then everything turned out differently. Without further ado, Wagner’s boss ordered his troops to withdraw. Prigozhin was then offered exile in Belarus. It is unclear if he is currently there. There is also speculation about the future of the mercenaries.

On Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin (70) addressed his people in a speech on state television. He presented Wagner’s mercenaries with a choice. Or they could sign contracts with the regular Russian army, return home, or go to Belarus, where Prigozhin would be. “I keep my promise. The choice is yours. But I am sure it will be the choice of warriors of Russia who have realized their tragic mistake.”

Tents were set up in no time

On Tuesday, Belarusian president Alexander Lukashenko (68) announced that he could accommodate Wagner. An abandoned military base will be made available for this purpose, writes the Washington Post.

Satellite images from Planet Labs show what the case might look like. In the Belarusian city of Tsel, which is located almost 90 kilometers from Minsk, about 300 tents can be seen on a former military site on Friday. Each tent can accommodate 20 to 50 people.

Construction progressed quickly, as photos show that work did not start until Monday, June 26. A Belarusian media outlet wrote the same day that a forest worker from the region said that “50 people were brought from 13 surrounding forest farms to build a camp for Wagner, which includes about 1,780 four-bed bunks and 400 toilets.”

Camping for Russian soldiers?

“The timing supports the view that the tents are associated with Wagner,” Jeffrey Lewis, director of the East Asia Nonproliferation Program at the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies, told the Washington Post. Because: Construction work began just two days after Wagner’s troops moved toward Moscow.

The Russian medium “Verstka” also reports that Wagner’s mercenaries have already informed their relatives about a transfer to Belarus. In particular, these are the fighters who have remained behind in Russia since the June 24 uprising in Rostov-on-the-Dom. However, the transfer has not started yet.

However, some experts are cautious. Whether the camp will actually be built for the Wagner troops has not been confirmed. Ruslan Leviev, an analyst with the independent Russian monitoring organization Conflict Intelligence Team, told the Washington Post: “Mobilized Russian fighters have been training in Belarus since late last year. It could be a campsite for them». (Mrs)
