Italian customs have seized 1.45 million euros from a couple who traveled to Italy by train from Switzerland. Customs seized some of the money due to the undeclared importation of foreign currency.
When asked if they had $10,000 or more in cash, the couple answered no. Because the couple’s statements did not seem credible, customs officials and the Guardia di Finanza took the couple to the customs office for inspection.
It turned out that the two travelers had 1.45 million euros with them. For one it was 50,000 euros and for the other 1.4 million euros, mainly in 500 notes, Italian customs announced on Friday.
In the case of the husband who traveled with 50,000 euros in luggage, customs imposed a fine of 6,000 euros. For the other spouse, however, the amount was far above the threshold. The financial police confiscated half of the amount to secure the fine, which corresponds to an amount of 700,000 euros. (SDA)
