More than 94,000 people were evacuated from threatened areas in India, according to the latest tally compiled by the Indian news agency PTI. Added to this were more than 72,000 resettled from neighboring Pakistan.
Pakistan, for its part, maintains a coastal alert in the southern province of Sindh, where thunderstorms with intense water falls accompanied by winds between 80 and 100 km/h were registered in six coastal districts, according to the latest section released by Pakistan Meteorological Service (PMD).
The passage of cyclones is common on the Indian coast. Tauktae, one of the deadliest cyclones to hit India’s west coast in recent years, left at least 145 dead in 2021. In neighboring Pakistan, a 1999 cyclone left more than 6,000 dead.
