The Erdogan doll burned in Zurich is a “provocation” for Ankara.

Turkey has summoned the Swiss ambassador to Ankara. According to a report from the state news agency Anadolu on Thursday, this was justified by the fact that on Wednesday during the women’s strike in Zurich, a doll supposed to represent President Recep Tayyip Erdogan (69) was burned.

Videos showed a burning doll in a shopping cart. It was made clear to the ambassador that “provocations against President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the Turkish flag are unacceptable”. In addition, Turkey had requested an investigation.

Behind the burning out of the women’s strike is the Zurich Revolutionary Strike Collective. The collective hung the Erdogan doll in front of the entrance to UBS. In the background hung a poster with the inscription “Kill Erdogan”. They then placed the doll on a shopping cart and set it on fire.

The Revolutionary Strike Collective said: “We stand side by side with the women and genderqueers fighting against patriarchal, religious fundamentalist and fascist oppression in Turkey, Kurdistan and everywhere.” The activists also criticized UBS for saying that Credit Suisse – which is now part of UBS – is a valued business partner of Turkey.

A request from the Keystone-SDA news agency to the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs (EDA) had not yet been answered Thursday afternoon. (SDA/treasure)
