Military expert Rob Lee is a senior researcher at the Foreign Policy Research Institute, a US think tank based in Philadelphia. Lee is currently considered one of the best informed experts on the war in Ukraine. The former marine observes the situation on the various fronts, evaluates video and footage from combat missions and has good connections in the military blogger scene. What he now reports, citing Russian colleagues, sounds almost unbelievable.

Accordingly, on Wednesday in Ukraine, there was said to have been a devastating military strike against Russian soldiers waiting at an unspecified military area at the front near Kreminna. The region is one of the Russian-occupied territories in Ukraine’s Luhansk Oblast. Apparently, a Russian commander planned to appeal there before his division went into battle – but the commander did not come.

While the soldiers waited for the superior for several hours, they were most likely spotted by Ukrainian air surveillance. He then probably ordered an air strike with American Himars missiles. Lee reports, citing Russian military bloggers who published the incident on their Telegram channels. The information has not yet been independently verified.

As the online site “Radio Swoboda”, an offshoot of Radio Free Liberty, reports, the attack is said to have claimed dozens of victims. According to unconfirmed reports, the commander is Major General Suchrab Akhmedov, who previously commanded the Pacific Fleet’s 155th Marine Brigade.

The precision weapon Himar is known for its high hit accuracy and destructive effect. According to Ukrainian sources, more than 100 soldiers have been killed in previous airstrikes with weapons, for example on positions of Wagner’s mercenary army.

Comments in the relevant Russian telegram channels show that there is great dissatisfaction about the failure of Russian commanders in the war in Ukraine. So also in this case. “Such commanders should be shot in front of the troops,” one user writes. “We are at war with our own stupidity,” writes another.
