So-called Easter eggs (i.e. hidden details in movies that refer to other movies, other pop-cultural stuff, or even real events) can now be found in every second movie. If you really want to understand all the references to Marvel and Spider-Man history in the animated highlight “Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse,” which just started hitting theaters, you’d probably have to put in months of study.
In the 2007 post-apocalyptic mega hit “I Am Legend,” in which Will Smith is supposedly the last person in New York to take on nocturnal vampire monsters, there is a very nice Easter Egg that not only immediately understands (almost) everyone – but at the same time also anticipates a real development that would only become reality ten years later (!).

Although the content of “I Am Legend” can best be compared to modern series such as “The Last Of Us” or “The Walking Dead”, this clairvoyant note is more reminiscent of the cult series “The Simpsons”, which in its more than a 30-year term has famously “predicted” all sorts of real-world events — right up to Donald Trump’s scheduled re-election in next year’s U.S. presidential election, which Homer Simpson & Co. already predicted in 2015:
“I Am Legend”, on the other hand, has nothing less than the DC event”Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice” expected — and that was nearly a decade before director Zack Snyder’s mammoth production (starring Ben Affleck as Batman and Henry Cavill as Superman) was actually shot.
like you presses pause after 7 minutes and 47 seconds, then you see how the symbols of Batman and Superman are arranged on top of each other on a banner in New York’s famous Times Square – which is exactly how it was announced at Comic-Con a few years later that the superhero crossover was actually going to come:
But while the announcement was met with thunderous applause, a few years later the result would turn out to be quite the bust and one of the greatest DC disasters of all time – and not just because of the we-must-work-together-because-our- mothers-have-the-same-name nonsense. The conclusion of the 2 star FILMSTARTS review is just short and sweet: “”
In fact, after “Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice” was not well received, yet scored at the box office, the sequel “Justice League” disappointed across the board – marking the end of the DCEU in its old form. In October 2022, even ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ mastermind James Gunn and top producer Peter Safran were hired to completely redesign the DC universe.
But before that happens, the DCEU blockbuster “The Flash” will hit theaters – and according to our 4.5-star FILMSTARTS review, it’s ““:
