Shelby Lynn has sparked a new wave that is very reminiscent of the beginnings of the #MeToo movement in Hollywood.
The Irish woman made serious accusations against Rammstein front singer Till Lindemann. Since then, the 24-year-old has been exposed to massive hate online. Their credibility is heavily questioned. Fans of the rock band even put a premium on the young woman.
Lynn is no longer alone in her accusations. Dozens of women report an alleged system of abuse of power and assault.
The latest developments in the Till Lindemann case:
The Spiegel, among others, reports about a so-called “perverse groupie system”. The magazine spoke to several people close to Rammstein’s work environment, as well as women who would have had access to pre- and after-parties backstage at the rock band.
After the young woman was misquoted several times, she repeated, “I never claimed he raped me.” Lindemann denies all allegations.
The statements draw an insidious and recurring pattern: Alena Makeeva, the rock band’s “casting director”, is said to have recruited sexual partners for the 60-year-old front singer. The Russian is said to have written to young women in particular via social media and invited them to concerts in the so-called “Row Zero”, the demarcated area directly in front of the stage. The only requirement: the women must dress as provocatively as possible.
“The women Makeeva selected always looked very young, no older than their late twenties, and matched the type of metal or goth girl,” reported a witness who allegedly belonged to Rammstein’s inner circle, the ” Mirror”. She wanted people to believe the women, which is why she took an affidavit.
YouTuber Kayla Shyx also reports on how women were systematically selected for Lindemann. The 21-year-old was one of the first to publicly support the allegations. In a 30 minute video, she talks about how Makeeva invited her to an after party and led her to a back room. “We were just brought in there so Lindemann could choose a few.”
Shyx continues, “All that was in this room was alcohol and two couches. And there were eight girls on these couches. Some of them were really dazed.” Like Shelby Lynn, Kayla Shyx is also subject to massive online hate.
After the concerts, the women were invited to post-show parties with a promise to meet Lindemann in person. A young woman told Der Spiegel how, at the age of 21, she was put in a taxi with other women after a concert and taken to a hotel. She was aware that there were “sexual components” but she went along anyway. All women would have drunk vodka with the musician. Then her memory went hazy until she woke up and Lindemann lay on top of her. “When he noticed I was waking up, he asked if he should stop,” the paper quoted.
Another young woman reports that Lindemann asked her twice if it was okay if they spent the night together. Her memories are also hazy. What remained were ‘brutal scenes’ of sexual violence.
Makeeva would have indirectly introduced women not only to Lindemann, but also to other crew members, the source from Rammstein’s circle reports. From the after-party, women were taken to an after-after-party — reportedly known internally as a “bitch parade” — where sex ensued.
As a singer and poet, Till Lindemann has always been known for his provocation and crossing boundaries. Most recently, he sparked criticism with a lyrical rape fantasy. Among other things, the poetry says, “I like to sleep with you when you dream. And that’s how it’s supposed to be (that’s how it’s supposed to be, that’s how it’s fun). A little Rohypnol in the wine (a little Rohypnol in the glass).” The drug Rohypnol is a sleeping pill – of all things.
The contested poems were each published by Verlag Kiepenheuer & Witsch. He has already responded to the allegations by ending the collaboration.
A look at “Doctor Dick” also reveals the role sex plays in Lindemann’s life. In addition to his work as an artist, Lindemann runs an online shop under the name “Doctor Dick”. The brand comes with a penis and syringe logo and sells sex toys, T-shirts and beer, among other things.
Through his press attorneys, Till Lindemann reports that the allegations that the women were drugged with alcohol or knockout drops to perform sexual acts on them are “all false.” In a public statement, the band writes: “We condemn any form of abuse and ask that you do not participate in public prejudice of any kind against those who have made allegations.” Alena Makeeva has reportedly been fired.
Shelby Lynn was interrogated by Lithuanian police for five hours. as she herself reports. As the Lithuanian newspaper “Lietuvos rytas” writes, the police have not launched an investigation against Till Lindemann because there is no evidence of a crime. This decision has yet to be approved by the Vilnius prosecutor’s office.
The Irishwoman tells NDR and SZ that she has received a cease and desist order from Lindemann’s lawyer. But she doesn’t want to be defeated: “Brupt me. I don’t care. Take me to court. I’m not afraid. You have a lot to lose and a lot to hide. I have nothing to hide.” She’s sure she was on drugs. “I’ve never felt this way in my life.”
After informing the police that she had been given a drug, the police told her to take a drug test herself. This was negative. The suspicion was knockout drops. However, these are no longer detectable in the urine after twelve hours and in the blood after about six hours.
No investigations have yet been started in Germany, reports MDR. However, a spokesman for the Berlin police pointed out that even if investigations were to come, the public would not be automatically notified. A minimum of supporting documents must be available for information purposes.
Rammstein is currently on a European tour. Despite protests, no concerts have been canceled so far. The metal band will perform in Wankdorf in Bern this Saturday and Sunday. De Juso launched a petition together with Campax to prevent the concerts.
“Such allegations of sexual assault must be taken seriously! The organizers should do the only right thing and cancel the concerts,” said Nicola Siegrist, president of Juso Switzerland.
The Swiss concert organizer Gadget abc Entertainment does not want to cancel the concerts. The reason: “Gadget cannot and does not want to participate in prejudice. We do not know that the band or any band member has been proven to have committed criminal acts,” the organizers said to “20 Minutes”.
One thing is certain: behind the band is a million-dollar business. According to the American magazine “Pollstar”, the twelve concerts with the highest sales alone would have generated ticket sales of more than five million dollars per performance.
