Rose Montoya met Joe Biden in the White House yard. She then pulled down her top and posed for the video – which many disliked.

Rose Montoya (27) is visibly happy with the invitation: the trans woman is exuberant at a party in the garden of the White House. The Idaho model is one of the guests at the Pride party hosted by the White House in Washington on Saturday.

Montoya posted a clip of it on Instagram. In it she shows the speech of US President Joe Biden (80) to hundreds of personalities from the LGBTQ+ scene. Montoya even got to pose with him for a selfie. “It’s an honor. Trans rights are human rights,” she tells him – but then she went overboard.

“Are we topless now?”

On the lawn in front of the Truman balcony, she pulled down her top, cupped her breasts in her palms, and had a friend film her. A voice rings out: “Are we topless in the White House now?”

The behavior sparked widespread criticism on social media. “Especially as a trans woman I am incredibly disappointed in you,” one user wrote on Twitter. The White House has now responded. According to the AP news agency, spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre said that the people in the said video would no longer be invited to events. “This behavior is inappropriate and disrespectful for a White House event.”

“Topless in DC is legal”

The spokeswoman is further quoted as saying, “It doesn’t reflect the event we hosted to celebrate the LGBTQ community or the other hundreds of guests who attended.”

Montoya was surprised at the criticism. After all, it is not illegal in Washington DC to go topless. “Topless in DC is legal. Why is my breast now considered inappropriate or illegal if I show it? Before I came out as trans, that wasn’t the case.”

She covered her nipples extra just to be on the safe side and she never intended to be “vulgar”.
