Lifeguard experienced shark attack in Egypt: “When I arrived at the man, the water was full of blood”

The beautiful beach on the coast of Hurghada in Egypt turned from a tourist hotspot to a place of terror on Thursday. When Vladimir P.* (23) was swimming in the sea just six meters from the bay, a tiger shark appeared and suddenly attacked. The Russian doesn’t stand a chance. He was literally ripped apart. During his agony, P.’s father stands only a few meters away from him. He must see everything. “Daddy, help me!” cried P. as the tiger shark continued to bite. “It all happened very quickly, literally in 20 seconds,” says his father about the attack.

Even lifeguard Mohammed H. cannot let go of the shark horror. He was on duty that day, responsible for security on the beach. At first it seemed to be a quiet day. He saw how the Russian went into the water with his girlfriend. All routine!

But then the situation suddenly changed. “I saw that the people on the jetty suddenly jumped up and looked at the water,” says the lifeguard of the “image”. It is immediately clear to the professional: something bad has happened. He jumps up, looks at the sea and sees Vladimir P. sink again and again. “I thought the man couldn’t swim,” said the Egyptian.

He could only save his girlfriend

Mohammed D. immediately ran into the water and jumped into the boat to help the man. But by then it was already too late. “When I got to the man, the water was covered in blood. Then I saw that he had no arm left. And then the shark,” said the lifeguard. “I knew immediately that he could not be saved,” he continues.

At the time, the victim’s girlfriend was standing motionless in the water, just meters from the crime scene. “I was able to pull her out of the water and bring her ashore, then I paddled right back to the man,” reports the experienced lifeguard.

An arm was found inside the shark

The sight of floating body parts in the water never leaves the Egyptians. “I’ve been traumatized since the incident. I haven’t slept, I can’t think straight,” said the lifeguard.

Moments later, the tiger shark was caught and killed. The fishermen first thought it was a pregnant animal looking for food. The abdomen was strongly curved. But when the fishermen cut open the animal, they were shocked to find the head of P. The shark had also swallowed an arm. After this nightmare, the “dream beach” was closed to tourists. (jwg)
