47 million francs for more quality in health insurance

The Federal Council is asking parliament for 47 million francs to improve the quality of health insurance. The money is intended to strengthen the quality of medical services and promote patient safety between 2025 and 2028. Four-year objectives serve as a guideline.

These objectives for the period 2025 to 2028 are a further development of the objectives of the current four-year period, as the Federal Council announced on Wednesday. Quality development must be implemented at all levels of the healthcare system. To this end, the federal government wants to promote national quality monitoring.

The Federal Quality Commission implements the objectives. It engages third parties for this purpose and participates financially in projects. The contracts between service providers and insurance companies must be based on the four-year objectives of the Federal Council.

The basis is the new quality strategy that will be adopted in 2022. This stipulates that treatment and care must be safe, effective, integrated and at the patient’s eye level. The Federal Council defines the objectives every four years. The federal government, cantons and insurance companies each bear one third of the costs of the quality commission. (rbu/sda)
