No matter which EU country you drive through – the hi-vis vest belongs in the car. But that is the only thing they have in common, because the regulations in the individual countries are fundamentally different. Denmark, for example, recommends only wearing a high-visibility vest. Montenegro, on the other hand, even prescribes where the safety vest must be located in the car: namely ‘visibly over the backrest’. And in Poland, even pedestrians are required to wear a safety vest – at least outside the city when it is dark.

Anyone traveling on European roads must know and comply with the applicable rules. Otherwise, a hefty fine may follow (for example: Spain: maximum 200 euros).
