These are the best bird photos of 2023

The so-called ‘Bird Photographer of the Year Competition’ is a competition in which bird photos have been awarded in various categories since 2016. The core of the project, according to their website, is to celebrate the beauty and diversity of the bird world and to celebrate modern digital photography.

The images were divided into eight main categories, three youth categories and three special categories. The best photo of the year and the best youth photo of the year were also awarded. The winners of the prize receive small cash prizes and photographic equipment. For all hobby ornithologists and other photo enthusiasts, here is a small list of some of the winning photos:

With a shot of a female falcon descending on the much larger brown pelican, Jack Zhi was able to prevail against the other 23,000+ photos received and win the Best Photographer of the Year award. The photo, taken in California, also won gold in the Bird Behavior category.

The prize for best young photographer went to 17-year-old German Anton Trexler. He managed to catch a blackbird silhouetted in the moonlight.

Britain’s Rachel Bigsby won the prize for the best portfolio. Also in her portfolio is this photo of a puffin, also known as puffin. It lives mainly in the North Atlantic Ocean and in the western Arctic Ocean.
