In a friendly match between Ambri-Piotta and Czech club Bili Tygri Liberec, a shot by Ambri star Jesse Virtanen (32) gets stuck in the mask of Czech goalkeeper Daniel Kral (20). The goalkeeper loses consciousness and injures his eye. In the hospital everything is clear for now, so far everything is going well with Kral’s eyesight.
Blick was able to talk to Sagittarius Virtanen about the situation. “We had a power play and I pulled off the blue line,” says the Finn. The shot was not particularly hard: “It was a normal blow.”
Due to a screen from Ambri newcomer Laurent Dauphin (28), the goalkeeper did not see the puck properly, so that he hit the mask. “Just very, very unhappy,” Virtanen summarizes.
After that you soon noticed that something was not right: “I saw the goalkeeper fall on the ice after the shot,” he recalls. Many players immediately stood behind their goalkeeper.
Did Virtanen contact goalkeeper Kral after the accident? “No. I just saw the pictures and heard he’s doing better.”
To judge whether something needs to be changed about the goalkeeper’s masks, he is the wrong person: “You have to ask the goalkeepers.” But of course something like that should never happen. The experienced defender has never experienced such an accident in his entire career.
Daniel Kral, who literally got away with a black eye, will now undergo further examinations in his home country, after which he wants to get back on the ice as soon as possible. “I hope he gets better soon,” Virtanen said.
