Second worst summer job I’ve ever had

18 years ago I planted over 150,000 trees in two summers. Time to clear up some of the preconceptions you probably have about it.

As a 20-year-old, I planted trees in northern Ontario two summers during college—four every minute. In an area where bears and black flies live.

Once a week, the other tree planters returned to town to shower. We also lived far away from civilization and we slept in tents.

You may now have a few questions: How do you manage to plant a tree every 15 seconds? Which was worse, the bears or the mosquitoes? And was I doing the environment a favor after all? I explain that in this video.

Why did I do all this to myself? Planting trees was much better than my first summer job. In a dog food factory.
