In Switzerland, men go to the doctor faster than women. While 41 percent of women avoid doctor visits for as long as possible, only 31 percent of men do.
This is evident from the study ‘Health Forecast’, financed by the health insurance company Sanitas. Women therefore use painkillers much more often. 58 percent of women take non-opioid medications such as acetaminophen or aspirin for pain, compared to only 42 percent of men.
The back is Switzerland’s Achilles’ heel: more than four in ten Swiss people regularly suffer from back pain. No other condition was mentioned as often in the study.
In higher mountain areas, the population complains of headaches more often than in the lowlands, Bern is Switzerland’s migraine stronghold, and more people in the canton of Zurich feel mental pain than in any other region.
