When it comes to Mercedes Stromers from the EQ family, the apple does not fall far from the tree. The EQE 43 looks just like its big brother, the EQS. This may annoy EQS owners, but it pleases EQE customers, especially indoors. Because the electric E-Class feels like a flagship with its XXL hyper-display. Three screens for digital instruments, a touchscreen and a personal infotainment system for the front passenger shine under a single glass. Despite the thick glass, touchscreens respond quickly to our touches. Integrating the smartphone is also quick and easy. This is the way it should be.

In the first few meters, we ask ourselves, are we really sitting in a sporty Mercedes? The EQE 43 rolls surprisingly comfortably for an AMG. But as soon as he switches to sports mode, the star pennant shows his teeth. The start is quicker, the suspension is firmer, and the steering is knurled. If we can feel the differences, that’s how the driving modes make sense. The steering wheel responds sensitively and never twitches even in sport mode. With the optional rear axle steering, you can easily overcome tight bends. EQE is a true corner scraper.

That was great

The acceleration is even more impressive. The Stromer draws 476 hp (350 kW) from its two electric motors and a crazy maximum torque of 858 Nm. The AMG launches as if stung by a tarantula and sprints to 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds. But acceleration doesn’t just push us from standing up to comfortable leather seats – typically Stromer, torque is an always-available hitch, but in sport mode it’s just a little bit of the driver’s accelerator pedal. requires pressing. Passengers will thank you.

that was weak

The five-seater, which costs at least 150,000 francs, has a lot more plastic inside than we expected, and that’s good for the Mercedes image. And the processing does not always fit into the details. An example: the height of the light and trim strips is offset between the driver’s door and the dashboard (see gallery). And the fan of the seat ventilation is also very audible to our taste. We know Mercedes can do better.

When it comes to driving, chassis and infotainment, Mercedes definitely draws the curve – often even inside competitors. Sharpened by AMG, the EQE 43 is convincing here and offers a lot of driving pleasure. This is complemented by a range of approximately 440 kilometers suitable for daily use in the test. But minor errors in the interior are a pity.
