Nature is waking up – the sun is shining more and more through the clouds. It’s time to get the scooter out of the garage or maybe buy a new one. The advantages of these urban vehicles are indisputable, especially in big cities. You can rush through even in heavy traffic and looking for a parking space is much easier than driving a car. Electromobility is also making its way into scooters – these three are new for the 2023 season.
If you don’t want to give up the feeling of a real scooter when driving a two-wheeled vehicle, of course you can choose a Vespa. The Vespa Elettrica is now available not only in gray but also in red. The internal batteries have a capacity of 4.2 kilowatt-hours (kWh), which is sufficient for a nominal maximum range of 100 kilometers. It can be around 70 kilometers in daily life. Due to the permanently installed batteries, an outlet is essential in the home parking lot, after which it is easy to navigate around the city.
While it is quite fast with the 45 km/h version, the 70 km/h variant is suffocating from 60 km/h. Other scooters in the 100 km/h class can do this better – but no one else is as stylish. But this comes at a price: Vespa Elettrica with a maximum speed of 45 km/h costs at least 6995 francs. If you want to be faster up to 70 km / h, you add 600 km / h and pay 7595 francs.
The Ray 7.7 has little in common with the classic design of a Vespa – the Spanish e-scooter is more likely to polarize people. In the 11 kW class – ie 15 hp – it impresses with its driving performance and a top speed of 129 km/h. The 7.7 kWh battery – hence the name, by the way – makes the e-scooter weigh 165 kilograms.
Despite its weight, the batteries provide a range of more than 150 kilometers at 50 km/h. Even those who step on the gas with care have to think about the next charging station after almost 110 km. With the optional 3.3 kW charger, the batteries are recharged to 80 percent after less than two hours at the type 2 charging station. The good: In addition to the three forward drive modes, the Ray 7.7 also has a reverse gear. The price is therefore not low: it starts at CHF 12,667.
In Italy things are going full steam ahead in the electric direction – from there comes the third innovation: The Italjet Dragster #e01 Electric doesn’t play the retro card, but looks like it came from the Hollywood blockbuster “Transformers.” The electric motor produces 8 hp (6 kW) continuous and 16 hp (12 kW) peak power with a torque of 360 Newton meters.
Thanks to the battery with a capacity of 4.91 kWh, a range of 90 to 180 kilometers can be provided depending on the driving style. To keep the electric fun going as quickly as possible, with the 11 kW fast charger, the batteries are 95 percent charged again in less than 30 minutes. With a curb weight of 150 kilograms, it is not possible to reach a top speed of over 120 km/h. The price of the electric Italjet Dragster starts at 6590 francs.
